The state of New Jersey is the scene of much history in colonial America. Not only is it a historian state, it is also an attraction to many people. It was for sure an attraction to my family and me. There are many reasons why I adore the Garden State. To begin with, it owns the Statue of Liberty. New Jersey also contains many beaches that make up the east. In addition it is the home of the world’s largest light bulb. Finally, the Civil Rights Garden is located in New Jersey.
Many people think that the Statue of Liberty is in the state of New York. Well, they are wrong. It is owned by New Jersey and only by New Jersey. It is a symbol for freedom and opportunity, and that is exactly what New Jersey is about. Freedom, as I said, means that in this state we have the right to do what our hearts desire. We also have the opportunities to have the American dream and to make the right choices. New Jersey is an opportunity to make a better life, and to keep that better life you made!
New Jersey is most famous for its sparkling beaches. Everywhere you look to the east of New Jersey you will spot a beach. Atlantic City, Cape May, The Wildwoods, and many other fascinating beaches make up many of the characteristics of this wonderful state. You have many activities to do at Atlantic City and the other beaches. For example, you can play, eat, stroll on the Boardwalk, splash, build sandcastles, relax at the free beach, climb the 228 steps of the historic Absecon Lighthouse, pet the sea creatures at the Ocean Life Center's Touch Tank, and many more!
If someone had asked you where the largest light bulb was located, you probably would have said another state besides New Jersey or maybe even a whole other country. Well, guess again! The Thomas Edison Memorial Tower and Menlo Park Museum was built in 1937 to mark the "Birthplace of Recorded Sound" in the Menlo Park section of what is now the town of Edison. The World's Largest Light Bulb is thirteen feet tall, weighs eight tons, and is illuminated at night. The tower marks the spot where Edison invented the light bulb. This is another historic spot following after the Statue of Liberty. This sight is only one of the other thousand places you could visit!
Finally, the Civil Rights Garden is located in New Jersey. The Civil Rights Garden is a public sculpture garden comprised of 11 granite columns, winding pathways, plants, flowers, and Ginkgo trees. Rich in symbolism, the Civil Rights Garden is a powerful tribute to the architects of the Civil Rights Movement with sculpture inscriptions related to the history, events and people of the Civil Rights Movement. At the center of the Garden is a bronze bell, which chimes throughout the day, and a reflecting pool inscribed with excerpts from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s "Let Freedom Ring" speech and his Letters from a Birmingham Jail.
It’s not just about the sights and history of New Jersey, it’s about the people that make this state up. It depends on how the people act and how much they care about this wonderful state. I am one of those people who care and cherish the state of New Jersey. I am one of those people who like to live in New Jersey. I am one of those who love New Jersey!
