Bethany,
So nice to be able to read your article. Your love of NJ shines on! I'm still a Steeler and Penguin fan through and through! So whose property does the Statue of Liberty stand on? Best to you!

T Newman

I've visited NJ many times on business, but never got to truely experience what people love about this state. This sums it up for me in just a few paragraphs! Now I would really like to experience all that NJ has to offer as described by Bethany. Good Job!

Joe's Friend

I especially liked paragraph two. Brilliant peace of work.

nice job you got it right

Beth,
I was so happy to read this essay. As a Jersey Girl myself, I pictured so many of the things you mentioned. Having lived away both in college and my younger years you cannot imagine how much you miss Taylor Ham.

Great Job,

Susan

Great job Bethany! It could be the lyrics to a song....

great essay!!!!!

Carol Taylor

Great essay on NJ. Everytime I meet a newcomer, they always coment on how pretty it is - You've covered all of it!

Mike Moe

I think the best thing about the essay is you can tell it came from the heart and Bethany's personal life experience. Touching on things everyone knows like the bread and bagels and some don't know, like the Statue of Liberty (I had to look it up).
Makes you feel good in a tough time for our beloved state.

Ah, yes...I sometimes forget how great it was growing up in NJ. Thank you, Beth, for the wonderful reminder. You took me back to the beach and the cities and everywhere in between! Great trip!!!

Only Jersey folks know what the true meaning of "going down to the shore", most people I talk to and say that, they either look at me and laugh or look at me like an idiot. Only in New Jersey do we call the beach the "shore" and if anyone hasn't ever been to the Jersey Shore, you are missing an experience of a lifetime with its extensive shoreline of history, true nature at its best and of course the old and new boardwalks. When I meet people and they recognize "going down to the shore", we feel like we belong to a special club and its our oasis of this country.
Yes, there are beautiful beaches all along the eastern seaboard, but you will be hardpresed to find this shore like any other. I am now a New Yorker for 30 years but I do consider myself from New Jersey. I loved your essay and it brought me back years of memories, however, respectively, The Statue of Liberty will always be considered New York and I appreciate that. The boats were destined to go to America and disembark in New York according to my grandparents who were on those boats. Either way, whichever way the courts rule and Ellis Island is factually in New Jersey waters I can accept it and proudly share our history. Thanks for your essay!!!!

Your essay reminds us of all the great things we sometimes take for granted. Great work!

Very nice essay, being a Jersey Girl born and raised, your essay sums up why I will never leave! :)

Beth,
Great essay!! You described NJ perfectly. NJ is a great place to live. Was "the intense rivalry your town has with the next one over" referring to Verona? Please send this essay to Jay Leno. He is always bashing NJ. Great job!!

Denise Dusko

What a perfect depiction of life in New Jersey!

Matthew B Confrey from Simlab

Hi Beth,
Right on! Great Job!! Roller coasters, the beaches and (jersey) Giants you covered it all....

Danielle Baruch

Hi Beth,
Fantastic essay and I really enjoyed reading it!
I have only lived in Jersey for about 8 years now but can't imagine living anywhere else and can't remember living anywhere else!!
Thanks for bringing such a big smile to my face about all we love in Jersey.

sweet essay

Beth.....the way I see it is there are two types of people in the world....the people who come from Jersey and the people who wish they came from Jersey (poor souls)!

Scott

This is what New Jersey is all about. The most amazing people all grew up in New Jersey and this proves that Bethany is just a prue example of another. We love you dearly! Fantastic job! Frank Sanatra from Hoboken would be proud not to mention hundreds of other celebs from NJ including ths one too! Way to go! People who trash talk NJ are simply jealous that never had the opportunity to grow up here.

Otto

And here I thought Jersey was going to the dogs! Now I have to re-think my whole "Jersey paradigm". Sheez... how can you not love a state described so eloquently??

Andy Shellgren

Congressman Pascrell....Meet Bethany Lipman; Jersey's best spokesperson! Way to go Bethany!
